I-526 Extension | Update from Pastor Jon

Dearest Christ Church Family,

Many of you are understandably concerned about the reports that a new extension of I-526 will be constructed on the property next door to our church building. The new off-ramp will be built to deal with the substantial (and growing) truck traffic to and from the port. Moreover, there will be alterations to Wando Park Blvd that will significantly disrupt traffic flow. Thankfully, construction doesn’t begin until spring of 2025.

Our original plan was to carry out our five year lease, and then take advantage of the 3 year option; thus giving us 8 years to grow as a church in our newly renovated facility. We may need to make other plans. Since we are merely a tenant in the building, we will not have much recourse to fight against a decision that has been made by the South Carolina Department of Transportation. Our next door neighbors at eCommerce will lose their building completely, and I-526 will go up literally next door to the one that we are leasing.

I am joining a few of our elders and deacons tomorrow for a meeting with our landlord. Please be in prayer for grace and wisdom during this process.  One thing is for sure: God is at work and He will provide for all our needs. He always does. Let’s take this to the throne of grace and trust the Lord.

“I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come. My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.” Ps. 121:1-2

Your Pastor, Servant, and Friend,

Pastor Jon
